Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says the Red Devils will regret allowing Paul Pogba to leave Old Trafford.

Pogba joined Juventus on a free transfer in 2012 and has developed into one of the world’s best midfielders, and is understood to have major interest from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has insisted the Serie A giants will not sell Pogba for anything less than €100m, and Ferdinand says the Red Devils will end up ruing the France international’s departure from the club.

“Potentially, Pogba can be a Ballon d’or winner,” Ferdinand told BT Sport, as reported by Daily Express.

“I asked him. “Why are you going? Where are you going? You’re going to Juventus.

“That’s not as good a league as the Premier League.

“You’re at Manchester United. Where are you going? What are you doing?

“He looked at me deadpan and went: “I want to be the best player in the world and I’m not playing. I want to go and play.”

Pogba has since taken world football by storm and is considered to be one of the world’s best players at the tender age of just 22.

Since leaving United, Pogba has played 92 Serie A matches for Juventus, scoring 20 goals despite playing primarily as a defensive midfielder.
